Dried flowers are one of the most practical decor options for your home. They need no watering, don't wilt, and can keep their shape and color for years. But a bouquet lives long only if you follow a few simple rules. Here's everything we've tested ourselves at the Dryflower studio.
1. Keep away from direct sunlight
The most important tip. UV rays fade even the most stable plants — lavender, gypsophila, statice. After six months on a sunny windowsill, bright pampas grass can lose up to 40% of its color. The ideal spot is a wall, shelf, or console away from windows.
2. Avoid high humidity
Bathrooms, kitchens near the stove, winter balconies — bad places for dried flowers. Moisture eats stems from below, they mold and break. Optimal humidity is 40–60%.
3. Dust monthly
Dust is the main enemy of a fresh look. The easiest way — a cool hairdryer at 30cm distance, sweeping top to bottom. A soft makeup brush also works.
4. Don't put them in water
Someone once wrote: "I watered your dry flower and it fell apart." Yes, it happens. Dried flowers are already dry — they don't need water. A vase is only for stability and must be completely dry inside.
5. Keep away from heat sources
Radiators, fireplaces, heaters — all dry stems to the point of brittleness. Lavender is especially sensitive.
6. Transport only in a box
If you're moving or shipping a bouquet as a gift — always use a rigid box with internal fixation. That's how we ship ours.
7. Don't spray anything on them
No hairspray, no water, no "special dried flower spray." Properly dried plants don't need it. Hairspray dulls color and adds stickiness that collects more dust.
How long do dried flowers really last?
With proper care — at least 2–3 years. A wheat sheaf from our grand opening has been standing for 4 years and still looks almost new.
