7 myths about dried flowers that people still believe

7 myths about dried flowers that people still believe

Dried flowers have a strange reputation. Some love them; others fear them — often because of myths passed down through generations. Let's bust the 7 most common ones with real experience.

Myth 1: "Dried flowers have bad energy, they're dead"

In the Japanese ikebana tradition, dried branches and plants are the foundation of compositions. If the Japanese have loved them for a thousand years — they're probably not that "dead."

Myth 2: "They collect dust, unhygienic"

Everything collects dust — books, picture frames, pillows. The question is just whether you dust once a month. For dried flowers that's a cool hairdryer for 2 minutes.

Myth 3: "They last a month, max"

Properly dried bouquets last 2–4 years. We have a wheat sheaf in the workshop that's 4 years old and looks nearly new. Secret: right conditions, monthly dusting.

Myth 4: "This is 90s grandma decor"

Open Pinterest 2024–2026. Pampas, feather grass, lavender — a new global trend, not a Soviet artifact.

Myth 5: "Expensive and not worth it"

800 UAH / 3 years = ~75 kopecks per day. Fresh bouquet for 800 UAH / week = ~115 UAH per day. Dried are 150× cheaper per day.

Myth 6: "Allergies in kids and pets"

The opposite: no pollen (the main allergen). Also non-toxic to cats and dogs, unlike many houseplants (lilies kill cats).

Myth 7: "Can't be gifted — symbol of mourning"

This association has faded in the last 10 years. In the West, dried flowers are a stylish gift. Same in Ukraine, especially among younger generations.
