Sweating effect for colds, fever reduction, cough relief

Bei welchen Beschwerden

Respiratory infections, flu, bronchitis, tonsillitis, early laryngitis

Wie anwenden

Tea from dried berries — classic Ukrainian «quick aid» for fever. Brew with boiling water, drink hot under a blanket — fever breaks in 2 hours. Raspberry jam — concentrated source of salicylic acid (natural aspirin).

Vorsicht

Contains salicylates — caution with aspirin allergy. Gout and chronic kidney disease — only with a doctor.

Bei welchen Beschwerden

Anemia, chronic fatigue, vision issues, diarrhea, stomach ulcers (as leaf tea)

Wie anwenden

Fresh berries — a handful daily in season. Dried — in a winter tea mix with rose hips and raspberry. Leaf tea — for mild stomach upset, ½ cup 3 times a day.

Vorsicht

Possible allergy in children — start with a few berries. During pregnancy — moderately.

Choleretic effect, diuretic, natural source of vitamins A and C in winter

Bei welchen Beschwerden

Stagnant gallbladder, mild cholecystitis, edema, atherosclerosis, vitamin deficiency

Wie anwenden

Red rowan preserves — classic Ukrainian preserve with sugar 1:1. Dried berries — in winter tea mix. Honey infusion — a spoonful before breakfast for bile stagnation. Red rowan — NOT chokeberry (chokeberry has a different profile).

⚠ Gefahr

⚠ Raw red rowan berries contain parasorbic acid — causes nausea in quantity. Freezing or cooking destroys it. So — only after first frost, or cooked.

Blood-pressure reduction, cardiac support, oral antiseptic

Bei welchen Beschwerden

Hypertension, atherosclerosis, chronic heart failure, stomatitis, colds with cough

Wie anwenden

Crushed viburnum with sugar (no cooking, 1:1) — a tablespoon morning and evening for hypertension. Berry tea — for colds. Gargle with decoction — for tonsillitis. One of the deepest Ukrainian folk plants.

Vorsicht

Very low blood pressure and pregnancy — avoid. Diabetes — account for sugar in preserves.

Blackthorn (sloe)

Astringent for the gut, skin cleansing, mild laxative from flowers

Bei welchen Beschwerden

Diarrhea, gut disturbances, acne and oily skin (externally), chronic constipation (from flowers)

Wie anwenden

Berry decoction — for diarrhea, ½ cup 3 times. Flower infusion — 1 tsp per cup, mornings on empty stomach for constipation. Homemade sloe wine — a traditional Carpathian drink, a digestive tonic.

Vorsicht

The pits contain hydrocyanic acid — do NOT crush or eat them. Alcohol infusion — only from ripe berries, pits removed.

Urinary tract support, fever reduction, kidney-stone prevention

Bei welchen Beschwerden

Cystitis, pyelonephritis, high fever, hypertension, early kidney stones

Wie anwenden

Juice drink — fresh cranberry + honey + water, don't boil. Drink a cup 3 times a day for cystitis. Raw berries with honey — for fever. Keeps without refrigeration for months (natural benzoic and salicylic acids act as preservative).

Vorsicht

Stomach ulcer and high-acidity gastritis — caution, dilute with water. Don't drink on empty stomach.

Wie anwenden

Sea buckthorn oil (from pharmacy) — a teaspoon twice a day for stomach ulcers; externally — for burns, post-surgical sutures. Preserves — a tablespoon in the morning for immunity.

Vorsicht

Acute cholecystitis and pancreatitis — avoid. Homemade oil has unpredictable concentration — use pharmacy-grade.

Choleretic effect, blood-pressure reduction, antibacterial (berberine)

Bei welchen Beschwerden

Bile stagnation, chronic cholecystitis, early hypertension, intestinal infections

Wie anwenden

Dried berries in pilaf — traditional Caucasian and Ukrainian cooking, a natural seasoning with therapeutic effect. Barberry kissel — for early cholecystitis. Bark tincture from pharmacy — only with a doctor.

⚠ Gefahr

⚠ Unripe berries are toxic — don't eat green ones. Berberine in bark at high doses causes bleeding. Pregnancy — STRICTLY FORBIDDEN in all forms. Don't combine with blood thinners.

Sammle fern von Autobahnen und Fabriken. Zerkleinere keine Kerne von Rosengewächsen (Schlehe, Traubenkirsche) — sie enthalten Blausäure. Einfrieren und Kochen neutralisieren oft die Toxizität.
