Feather grass or pampas grass: what's the difference and which to pick

Feather grass or pampas grass: what's the difference and which to pick

Two of the most popular grass-family dried plants — pampas grass and feather grass (stipa). Both fluffy, both trending, both often confused. Here's the difference.

Feather grass (Stipa)

Low steppe grass from Ukraine and South Europe. Height 30–80 cm. Silky fine hairs that move with the slightest breeze. Silvery-grey color. 100–300 UAH per bunch.

Pampas grass (Cortaderia)

Giant perennial from Argentine pampas. Height 150–300 cm. Dense fluffy plume 20–40 cm wide. Creamy white (also pink, gold variants). 200–800 UAH per plume.

When to choose what

Feather grass: small spaces, tabletop, silvery tones, budget-friendly.

Pampas grass: floor vase, big visual anchor, boho weddings, larger budget.

Combine them

Pampas as background, feather grass as "lower layer" with movement — classic boho composition.
